Privacy
“ScreenOn: Keep Screen Awake” keeps your Mac's screen awake. The program has no servers, no accounts, no telemetry, no analytics and no ads. It contains no code that connects to the network, and it collects nothing about you.
What the app stores
- Your settings: the last duration you picked, the shortcut, and the switches (launch at login, keep on while on battery, timer in the menu bar, dim instead of sleep, lid closed, what to do after the Mac wakes, the auto-stop charge level). The end time of a running session is kept so that it survives a restart.
- Everything is kept in the app's preferences file on your Mac. Nothing is copied anywhere else. To delete it, uninstall the application and remove its preferences file from
~/Library/Preferences.
What the app does not do
- It does not connect to the internet, so no data about you or your Mac is sent to the author or to anyone else.
- It does not read your files, contacts, camera, microphone or screen content, and it does not need Accessibility access (the shortcut uses a system function that works without it).
- It does not include analytics or crash-reporting code. If you allowed macOS to share analytics with developers, Apple handles that itself, outside the app.
Things that look like network use but are not
- Links in the app (for example, the project page) open in your own browser, and only when you click them. The app itself sends nothing.
- Direct download only: “Share logs”. When you press the button in Settings, the app builds a text file on your Mac: the app version, macOS version and Mac model, your settings, the list of programs that currently hold power assertions (
pmset -g assertions), the power settings (pmset -g), the app's own log of the last 6 hours and the newest crash report of this app. It then opens the standard macOS sharing sheet. The file goes nowhere until you choose a recipient there. Read it before you send it. - Direct download only: lid-closed mode. It uses a small background helper, which you approve in System Settings. The helper only changes the Mac's sleep setting while a session runs; it does not read or send data.
- Direct download only: dimming. It reads your system's display-sleep setting and which programs hold the display awake, and changes the brightness of the built-in display. All of it stays on your Mac.
